Old Basing Infant School works with the Aspire Taaching School Alliance to support the School Direct route into a career in teaching.
What is School Direct?
School Direct is a school-led teacher training programme. School Direct courses are designed by a group of schools in partnership with a university. A School Direct course lasts a year and you will train in at least two schools.
Why choose School Direct?
This course offers a brilliant option if you want to train and learn ‘on the job’. You’ll be part of a team from the very start, receiving intensive support from experienced teachers and mentors. That means you won’t be teaching classes unsupported until the school thinks you’re ready so you won't be thrown in at the deep end but will be supported to develop your confidence and competence as the year progresses.
Aspire Teaching School Alliance offers School Direct (tuition fee) places
These places are open to all graduates and funded by tuition fees paid by the trainee. The fees for our programme are £9000 and this may be financed by a government loan from Student Finance.
The School Direct route with the Aspire Teaching School Alliance leads to the award of qualified teacher status (QTS) if successful in passing the school-based part of the programme. The award of a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) and credits towards a Master’s Degree is dependent on the standard of the 4 assignments over the year set and assessed by the University of Winchester.

Old Basing Infant School is involved by offering placement for trainees to complete the School Direct programme. Trainees are part of our staff team for the year of their training. We have staff trained as mentors and we provide some of the programme content offered as part of the training.
