Eco Warriors

Old Basing Infant School Eco Warriors group was set up in 2017. The children are elected by their class mates. They work with Mrs McCarley to consider how the school can be more environmentally friendly and how we can save resources and energy.

The Eco Warriors have identified 5 areas that they want to improve for the school.

1. Saving electricity

2. Keeping our environment tidy

3. Recycling

4. Saving water

5. Supporting the community to be environmentally friendly

The Eco Warriors have been thinking of ways they can save electricity around school. They carryout spot checks on classrooms to ensure lights and computers are turned off when they are not in use.

Eco-Warriors support their classmates and teachers to ensure paper is not wasted and  everything that can be recycled is recycled.

Have you heard of the one paper towel challenge? The Eco-Warriors challenges everyone to use a paper towel so efficiently that the only need one to dry their hands. Mrs McCarley can do it, can you?!

Eco-warriors love to litter pick. We don't find too much in the school grounds but we let our community know what we find so that they can be aware of any litter they accidentally leave behind.

At Old Basing Infant School you can bring your used batteries and home printer cartridges for recycling.

The work carried out by the Eco Warriors links very closely with our rights respecting ethos. The articles below are taken from the UNCRC and are covered during Eco Warrior meetings.

Article 12: children have the right to say what they think should happen and to have their opinions taken into account.

Article 24: children have the right to a clean environment.
